2015 is a time for action

During the first six months of 2015, intensive negotiations are taking place in New York and around the world in the run up to the Special UN Summit on Sustainable Development in New York on September 25-27, 2015, when the post-2015 development agenda will be adopted, replacing the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) with a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Therefore, it is vital that civil society understands, monitors and influences the process, while national governments are lining up their strategies and positions towards the post2015 agenda.

MADE and the post-2015 agenda

For this reason, the Global Governance of Migration and Development Working Group, coordinated by Cordaid, have prepared a 4-page briefing paper titled: 'Migration and Sustainable Development Goals: a Post-2015 Call to Action' (English, Spanish, French and Turkish). 

The brief is a useful tool for lobbying and advocacy work globally.

The paper:

1. Provides a background as to why migrants and migration are important to development and have to be included in the new SDGs.
2. Describes the transition from the current MDG to a future SDG policy framework and the upcoming steps in this process.
3. Highlights our agenda for change, in particular the ‘Civil Society Stockholm Agenda’ and the proposals of integrating migrants and migration into the post-2015 goals and targets.
4. Includes important steps that you can take to come into action and mobilise support for this important civil society campaign.

The document may be shared within each organisation and with global networks to ensure wide dissemination.
