Activities in the Americas are coordinated by the International Network on Migration and Development (INMD) based in Mexico and Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) with assistance from Fundación Scalabrini in Chile.
Activities in MADE Americas aim to foster safe migration, human security and human development across the region in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America, linking with the diaspora in North America.
All civil society organisations working or with an interest in the field of migration, migrant rights and development in the Americas are welcome to join and participate in upcoming regional events, advocacy actions and other activities.

Evaluation of the MADE Pilot Fund on civil society collaboration with local governments in Honduras

Fundación Scalabrini undertook field visits in June 2016 to evaluate the impact of the advocacy efforts lead by CASM with their project “Gobiernos Locales Incorporando Acción de Prevención y Reinserción de Migrantes” (Local governments implementing actions for precaution of irregular migration and reintegration of returning migrants).

On June 30th 2016, MADE and its MADE Americas partner INMD hosted a webinar to show how non-state actors could work together around the world to link the non-binding with the binding and the global to the local to oblige states to better protect migrants’ rights, sharing the experience of networks and the UN offices in Mexico.

En continuidad con el compromiso de fortalecer la convergencia y la colaboración entre las organizaciones de la sociedad civil de América del Sur y los Estados parte de la Conferencia Suramericana de Migración (CSM) y preparar su representación en el próximo Foro Mundial sobre Migración y Desarrollo (FMMD), la Red SIMN está promoviendo dos actividades específicas que anticipan la CSM y el FMMD, que se realizaran respetivamente en Asunción los 3 y 4 de noviembre y en Dhaka, Bangladesh del 8 al 12 de diciembre.

The Jornadas Migratorias represent a space of reflection and discussion of the Chilean civil society on the challenges brought by the redaction, configuration and presentation of a new Migration Bill in the country. This year’s content will be focused on the way the local governments and civil society organizations are organizing themselves to keep working for the protection of migrants rights while the right public policies are still absent.

The World Social Forum on Migrations (WSFM) was born as a key feature of the World Social Forum, and was first held in Porto Alegre in 2005. This year, São Paulo in Brazil will be hosting the forum from 7 to 10 July 2016 under the slogan “Migrants: building alternatives to disorder and the global capital crisis“.
