PILOT FUND SRI LANKA


Duration project:  September 2015 – September 2016

In Sri Lanka the MADE pilot fund is being coordinated by the Sarvodaya Women’s Movement.

The objectives of the project are multiple:

  • Informing the government and non-government stakeholders on the commonly reported issues related to the migration.
  • Raising awareness of the government and non-government stakeholders on the legal concerns and protective mechanisms enshrined for migrant workers.
  • Educating the expecting migrant workers on the safe recruitment procedures and their pre-departure and post-departure rights.
  • Preparing the expecting migrant workers with professional skills necessary for decent living in the destination countries.
  • Creating a safe space for returning migrant workers and directing them for necessary legal and psycho-social support systems.

The focus is in 3 districts in Sri Lanka: Kurunegala, Vavuniya and Anuradhapura

The main activities that have been undertaken are:

  • Desk research on needs of migrants.
  • 3 day professional training course on safe migration.
  • One day advocacy workshop in all three districts on issues around pre-departure and in-service. More than 50 participants attended the workshop, amongst them were local administration officials, village leaders, Sarvodaya local level members, Migration
  • Development Officials (MDO’s) and the village administration secretary.
