The network is organized around sub-regional focal points in West, East, North, South and Central Africa, and led by Caritas Senegal and a Steering Committee and collaborates with other civil society organisations to promote human-rights driven migration policies. All civil society organizations working or interested in the field of migration, migrant rights and development in Africa are welcome to join and participate in upcoming regional events, advocacy actions and other activities.

Flowers Campaign for International Migrants Day

The Flowers Campaign aims to pay homage to all the migrants that have died on the borders and in the seas, oceans and deserts of the world.  On this occasion, the West African Observatory on Migrations invites all citizens that support solidarity and justice to join us in paying homage to the migrants that have perished by throwing a flower into a stream, lagoon, river, sea or ocean.  To also honour the migrants that live near our homes, we invite you to participate by offering them a flower or the drawing of a flower as a token of your respect and solidarity.

African civil society condemns hunt for migrants on the continent

After the death of a malian migrant in Mauritania, the West African Observatory on Migrations (WAOM), together with MADE Africa, The Pan African Network for the Defense of Migrants' Rights (PANiDMR) and the Moroccan Transnational Network on Migration and Development (RMTMD) issued a joint statement condemning the chase on irregular migrants going on in Mauritania and other African states.

ICMC & Oxfam call on EU ministers to change course on migration cooperation with Africa

European foreign ministers meeting on Thursday to assess the six months since November’s Valletta Summit on migration from Africa must shift their focus to the urgent needs of people fleeing from violence and human rights abuses, said Oxfam and ICMC. As the death toll rises in the central Mediterranean, the EU has increased the amount of money given to many of the same regimes that people are so desperately fleeing from.
