The Migration and Development Civil Society Network (MADE) is an open networking space for civil society that has evolved out of years of civil society organizing within and around the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD).
The MADE program seeks to strengthen civil society’s role in advocacy and work with governments to improve conditions under which migrants and communities move, live and work. MADE activities include joint campaigns, regional and thematic conferences, Migration and Development civil society newsletters and advocacy reports.
MADE is building and strengthening three regional civil society networks: MADE Asia, Africa and Americas, in addition to a Europe chapter and a global coordinating office.
MADE has also created three working groups which conduct activities related to the following global themes: diaspora and migrants for development, global governance of migration and development and labor migration and recruitment. The MADE program is coordinated by ICMC in direct partnership with implementing civil society partners in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe.
In the first half of 2015, MADE will develop and publish the first edition of an annual global civil society policy report to assess what has been achieved, and not been achieved since UN High-level Dialogue on International Migration and Development (HLD) in 2013 and civil society’s 5-year 8-point plan; what issues have moved forward, and which have stagnated or worsened; and what needs to be done before the next HLD, planned no later than 2019.
The Movement report will aim to be bold and ambitious and will be targeted towards governments; urging them to move before the next HLD. At the same the report will serve as the primary background document for the 2015 GFMD Civil Society Days in Istanbul (12 – 14 October) and will spotlight recommendations, campaigns, and tools. For more detailed information on the content, structure and an indicative timeline of the report please refer to the Concept Note.
The Movement report will be closely linked to the results from a global survey among civil society conducted during the first semester of 2015. This global survey will analyse priorities, challenges and the situation on the ground for migrants, communities and civil society organizing in various regions and various aspects of migration and development, in particular with regards to the priorities in civil society’s 5-year 8-point plan.
