A civil society call for social change in the Americas

English

MADE Americas has published the first in a series of forthcoming regional reports, titled ‘Migration, Development, and Human Rights: alliances as a pillar to transform the social reality in Latin America and the Caribbean’.

The report draws together the conclusions of a series of MADE civil society meetings held in the Americas the past eighteen months with more 250 participants from Latin America and the Caribbean.

  • The report highlights issues of primary  importance on the ground for migrants, families and communities in the region. Recommendations put forward in the report include: There is a need for comprehensive migration and development policies, grounded in international and regional human rights instruments.
  • There is a need for an integrated approach and cross-sectorial coordination on migration policies, and budget needs to be allocated to ensure the human rights of migrants can be exercised and are protected
  • Set up and implement action information systems about companies and recruitment agencies, and their compliance with rules and regulation.
  • Governments must ensure the social inclusion of migrants.
  • Civil society’s participation should be incorporated formally into decision-making arenas, via national, regional and global forums.
