The MADE Global Working Group on Global Governance of Migration and Development is coordinated by Cordaid, an international development organisation with its HQ in The Hague, The Netherlands.

All civil society organizations working in the field of migration and development or with an interest in the topic are welcome to join and participate upcoming events or other activities.

Priorities 2016

• In the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, continue organizing a series of advocacy webinars on SDG implementation and indicator development 
• Extend the advocacy toolkit with tools aimed at SDG implementation and indicator development, such as the CS Talking Points
• Organize and coordinate CSO shadow reports on migration-related goals and targets in the framework of the UN follow-up and review process, and alongside the annual High Level Political Forum (HLPF) meeting in July in New York 
• Organize and coordinate policy recommendations preventing forced migration especially in fragile states and ensuring the protection of refugees and migrants in the framework of the UN Summit on the large-scale movement of migrants and refugees, and SDG 10.7 on safe and responsible migration
• Update the WG members on new developments in migration and sustainable development through mailings and webinars

Activities 2014-2015

• Hosted the first Working Group meeting during the Civil Society Days at the 2014 GFMD in May in Stockholm, and the second during the Civil Society Days at the 2015 GFMD in October in Istanbul
• In collaboration with the Global Coordinating Office, collected 312 signatures worldwide for the ´Civil Society´s Stockholm Agenda on migrant and migration-related goals and targets´ between June 2014 and February 2015
• Published the ´Post-2015: a time for action!´ Policy Briefing in February 2015
• Organized webinars during the first half of 2015 on advocacy efforts and strategies by civil society to include migrants and migration in the Post-2015 Agenda
• Lobbied policy makers during the Intergovernmental Negotiations (IGN) process leading to the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in September 2015.
• In collaboration with MADE Africa, preparing a regional conference in Addis Ababa in July 2015, on the back of the Third International Conference on Financing for Development.
• An advocacy toolkit on SDG implementation with a Briefing Paper and template advocacy letters (in English, Spanish and French) was released on the occasion of International Migrants Day, 18 December 2015.
• Lobbied policy makers and (national) statisticians responsible for the development of the SDG global indicator framework, leading to the adoption of 203 global indicators by the Interagency Expert Group on SDGs and the UN Statistical Commission in March 2016.

Hope and half-heartedness at the UN Summit: nearly 100 civil society organizations publish scorecard and urge world leaders to act now

As 193 governments unanimously adopted the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants at the UN General Assembly on 19 September, civil society organizations called for action now, immediately in the days and months following the Summit.The Summit launched explicit commitments to create two global compacts over the next two years: one on refugees and one for safe, orderly and regular migration. But millions of refugees and migrants and the countries to, through and from which they move cannot wait that long for change to be implemented on the ground.

The second draft of the Global Compact for Refugees

16 July 2016

On 16 July, a second draft of the Global Compact for Refugees was released by the co-facilitators of the Summit on Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants, Ireland and Jordan. It is expected that this Compact will accompany the Political Declaration from the Summit as an annex.
