Tenth African Development Forum

The Tenth African Development Forum will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the theme, “Migration and Africa’s transformation”. The theme stems from the recognition of the central role of migration as an important enabler for inclusive and sustainable development premised on African-owned and African-driven developmental initiatives.

Africa is a continent on the move as globalization has opened new avenues for migration.  Distances have shrunk, information on opportunities is easily available and widely shared, at the same time as aspirations for a better life have risen. About 31 million, or little more than 3% of Africa’s population, have migrated internationally though migration streams within Africa are much larger than those out of Africa. More than half of those migrating internationally do so within Africa, especially within the same sub-region.

The African Development Forum is a flagship biennial event of the Economic Commission for Africa that offers a multi-stakeholder platform to debate, discuss and propose concrete strategies for Africa’s development. The Forum is convened in collaboration with the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank and other key partners to establish an African-driven development agenda that reflects consensus on African development matters. The findings of current research and opinions on key development issues are submitted to major development stakeholders at the Forum, to enable them to devise shared goals, priorities and programmes, and determine the environment in which they will be implemented.
