Conference on Development Financing, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

As the 'migration and development issue' assumes a central position in the Euro-African dialogue, the MADE network considers that including it in the post-2015 agenda, is a way of contributing to the development of migration policies focused on human rights and development, and the institution of inter-State and multi-actor dialogues on the issue.

The upcoming Third International Conference on Financing for Development, to be held in Addis Ababa in 13-16 July 2015, will gather high-level political representatives, including Heads of State and Government, and Ministers of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation. The conference will necessarily result in the adoption of major political commitments to support the post-2015 development agenda. It is thus a perfect opportunity for MADE Africa members to hold a meeting with other MADE members and thematic Working Groups in order to make themselves known and influence the decisions of the conference with regard to migration and development policies.

To this end, the Addis Ababa conference will:

(I) assess the progress made in the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus and the Doha Declaration;

(II) identify the difficulties encountered in their implementation;

(III) propose actions to overcome these difficulties; and

(iv) address new and emerging issues in relation with recent multilateral efforts, the evolving development co-operation landscape, the interrelationship of all sources of development finance, the three dimensions of sustainable development and the United Nations Development Agenda beyond 2015.

Moreover, the Addis Ababa Summit could be an important moment in shaping the future paradigm of financing for development.

It will provide a suitable platform to concretely discuss the means to be harnessed and the Sustainable Development Goals.
