IN-COUNTRY TRAININGS 

Two in-country trainings were organised by ICMC in Senegal and Guinea. 

Senegal

A training seminar  titled "The illegal practices of recruitment of Senegalese migrants that can lead to cases of trafficking and smuggling of migrants" was held in Dakar 22-23 January 2019. The meeting was organised by ICMC Europe in collaboration with the local partner DIADEM. 

The objective of the training were: 

  • Create spaces for dialogue and advocacy between civil society actors.
  • Strengthen participants' understanding of national, regional and international mechanisms and legislation.
  • Increase participants' knowledge of legal and illegal recruitment methods.
  • Ultimately, strengthen cooperation between civil society and government actors and representatives of local authorities
  • Jointly agree on concrete actions and develop a roadmap for advocacy for Senegalese civil society on the issue of recruitment practices of migrants abroad.

Guinea

The training seminar on "illegal recruitment practices in Guinea abroad that can lead to cases of trafficking and smuggling of migrants" was held from 05 to 06 February 2019, in Conakry, Guinea. 
The seminar was organized by ICMC and the Guinea Youth Africa Network (RAJ-GUI).

The objectives of the seminar were:

  • Create spaces for dialogue and advocacy between civil society actors and national public institutions;
  • Strengthen the understanding of civil society organizations on national, regional and international mechanisms and legislative frameworks for labor migration and the fight against trafficking and smuggling of migrants;
  • Increase participants' knowledge of legal and illegal recruitment methods;
  • At the end of the session, strengthen cooperation between civil society and government actors and representatives of local authorities
  • Jointly agree on concrete actions and develop an advocacy roadmap for Guinean civil society on the issue of international recruitment practices for migrants

INTRA-REGIONAL TRAINING

ICMC Europe, in collaboration with DIADEM, International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Senegal and Kingdom of Sweden, organised a regional training in Dakar, Senegal, on the 10-13 April 2019. The event titled "Regional workshop on mixed migration, international recruitements and the protection of the rights of migrants, for the regional Migrafrique platform and the actors of the Senegalian civil society".

During the first two days of the training workshops took place, allowing to address various current issues related to migration, during which members of MIGRAFRIQUE and civil society were able to exchange with representatives of the Senegalese government and academic and United Nations experts, and highlight some key challenges and recommendations. 
To follow,  during the last two days, the senegalese office of IOM conducted training workshop on mixed migration, international recruitment and migrant protection - in the framework  of the IOM mixed migration capacity building Project funded by the Government of the Kingdom of Sweden - for the MIGRAFRIQUE Regional Platform and Senegalese Civil Society Actors.
